This is the same as an old issue—#2406—but I think I am still experiencing it. When I open my MacBook to wake after a period of sleeping, the screen is dimmed to a very low level (1 nit). I have to manually increase the brightness (even though Auto Brightness shows as enabled in BetterDisplay).
I have "On startup & wake" set to "Do not restore combined brightness and software adjustments", and I have "Allow restore to full dimming" disabled, and "Restore excessive dimming for Apple displays" disabled:
If I just close the lid and re-open it after only a short period, the display is not dimmed. It only seems to happen when I return to the laptop after a longer period. Unsure how else to reliably reproduce this.
I'm using native brightness upscaling, with the BetterDisplay XDR preset (MacBook Pro 16 inch, 2023). Do I have the settings right? I don't really want to set a minimum brightness for the XDR upscaling.

I don't think these settings apply and this does not seem to be the same as any of the older issue, nor something that normally happens (at least wasn't reported yet and don't seem to be happening for me either, although I also have a 2023 MBP 16") - with native XDR upscaling combined and software brightness control is not used at all. You can however try enabling combined brightness as well (see the option for it under the native XDR upscaling settings) and allow restore on startup & wake, that might fix the issue on your config.
