I might be stupid since I'm new to this application but I've spent a solid hour trying to find a setting or effect that lets my mic play on both sides. |

I imagine you have a mono microphone. In these cases you have to put the
Stereo Toolsplugin in the microphone pipeline and configure its stereo matrix so it creates stereo from mono. As long as both channels of the microphone pipeline have signal the monitor signal sent to the soundcard will have sound on both of them too.
