ControllerX v5.0 and Appdemon: What to update first?

The release note for v5.0.0 states:

⚠️ Add support to AppDaemon 4.5.X. This is a breaking change, so if you are running on AppDaemon <4.5, make sure to update first, and add the excude_dirs parameter as indicated here.

What does "make sure to udate first" refer to? Should I first update Appdemon or ControllerX?

Also, the latest available Version for AppDaeomon is 0.17.7 - there is no version 4.5 or greater available

I run ControllerX 4.29 and AppDaemon 0.16.7

In a first attempt, I updated both and restarted, and my light switches stopped working - so I restored a backup
