Running Zephyr Samples on Out-of-Tree Boards

Hey everyone,

I've ported my custom board to Zephyr as an out-of-tree board. When I try to build the Hello World sample using:

west build -b <board_name> zephyr/samples/hello_world

I get the following error:

No board named 'my_board' found.  

Please choose one of the following boards:
...

However, I can successfully compile my own out-of-tree application. I've also set BOARD_ROOT in my CMakeLists.txt to the project root, which includes Zephyr as a submodule.

I'm running Zephyr 4.1.0-rc2.

Am I missing something in my setup? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think this issue is similar to what I'm experiencing. @tejlmand, could you please help?

adding BOARD_ROOT to the west command resolved the issue.
