Have you checked the documentation and searched existing issues?

  • Yes, I have reviewed the documentation and searched for related issues.

Your NotebookLM query

CTRL + F : "recover" "recovery" etc have no finds on LM.

Your question

I have solved it. And I know you have too but it's not easy to find. If we could add it to the lm or documentation. I figured it should work after looking more into file recovery. My homework file was ~400-500kb before I called it a night around 11:30pm. Get up to finish the second half. My file is reset to the stock splash screen (i left mine on incase I ever a quick link to the youtube or site).

Steps you've already tried

1.)I searched DuckDuckGo, Reddit, youtube. various kewords I tried using to search the git didn't give me the solution all that fast. I am a newer obsidian & excalidraw user (just started a month or so ago).

2.) Realized the core plug-in for File Recovery was on by default.
Looked for my file and couldn't find it.

3.) restored my whole vault from my syncthing / synctrayzor backup.
My file recover was not working at first either.

4.)Tried multiple different copy & paste ins. Both into note & drawings.

5a.) Something with the syntax and %% and code block (~~~) finally clicked and proccessed. Right click and tried opening as drawing . Error message about compression and asked if I would like to recover. Catch all was nice, but, didn't direct me to file recover, or follow up with any details. Tried a few more times. Nothing. :(

5b.) After about 60 minutes of tweaking it, finally tried to take a breath and simplify it. Made a new drawing. Added one line with the pen tool and a typed out a word.

6.) Changed the file name and saved. Waited for everything to process then closed Obsidian. (I'm assuming it was either I closed too fast last night or because of something with compression, it said it was fixed, but I'm too new to confirm it didn't pop back up).

7.) Copied file over into KDE kate.
Since pasting wasn't working in obsidian natively, correctly, cleared the whole file and pasted it in. Made sure the syntax all matched up. (Headers for Drawing , text, etc.)

8.) Saved and prayed.

9.) It worked!!!

(I did the videos after i finished this write up. So if you do go ahead with this, mine probably won't be the best ones to use)

nevermind. neither one with the compressed attempt or succesful attempt succesfully upload here. I can email you directly or send you an icloud link whenever you get to my ticket. No rush. I'm busy with school anyways.

Expected outcome

I would like for a short clip on how to recover drawings be added to the official documentation as well as the video. I'm still learning the process but I love excalidraw. This almost gave me a heart attack though. :O. Also if I could just get a confirmation on if I should or shouldn't use compression. I only have excalidraw and the editing toolbar installed.

Additional context

I was going to show off my drawings here but it was too long. Thankfully I had a recovery file before compression. The compressed one did NOT work when I was trying out recovry methods. Might be user error but if anyone else runs into this and can confirm or deny that would be awesome. This probably read like garbage but I had to write this out before I forgot.

A blog post on excalidraw-obsidian.online would be the best, placed under troubleshooting.
