Nice and simple, if this works, it's great. Note that this will only solve for LinkItems that use the LinkItem field on a has_one relationship. This will not work for many_many situations where the LinkItems are managed with a grid field and the upload dir is set in LinkItem::getCMSFields. That's a harder problem to solve though.
