Hi 👋, I'm Alvaro

Data Scientist & Full Stack Developer based in Switzerland 🇨🇭

  • 🔭 I’m currently a finishing my Master Thesis of Data Science at Mammut AG, working on quality and product development research

  • 📘 Studying a Master's in Applied Information and Data Science at HSLU

  • 🤖 Built an AI/ML tool at ON AG to predict customs codes for products using structured and unstructured data

  • 🌱 Continuously expanding my stack: ML, Python, R, Django, React, Node, SQL

  • 👯 Looking to collaborate on impactful data-driven or full stack projects

  • 💬 Ask me about anything tech, data, or development—I love solving problems

🔥 Motivation

I've always been fascinated by computers—the infinite content, the creativity, and the power to build anything from scratch. What started as simple curiosity ("this webpage should have this feature", "this game is missing that element") evolved into a deeper desire to create, optimize, and understand how things work under the hood.

That curiosity matured into a passion for Data Science—a field where analytical thinking, problem-solving, and storytelling through data come together. Today, I use code not just to build, but to find patterns, create models, and drive decisions with data.

"The programmers of tomorrow are the wizards of the future."
It is the closest thing we have to super powers.

🧠 From Education to Data

My academic path started in a completely different field: Sport Science and Education. I earned a Bachelor's in Sport Science, then a Master's in Education, and worked as a Physical Education teacher. That experience taught me how to communicate effectively, adapt to challenges, and manage diverse, high-pressure environments—skills I now apply in team-based data projects.

When I moved to Switzerland 🇨🇭, I decided to pivot and pursue my growing interest in tech. I dove into Full Stack Web Development through The Odin Project, an open-source curriculum that helped me build strong programming foundations.

Soon after, I discovered Data Science—where my technical skills, educational background, and love for structured thinking came together naturally.

Today, I'm pursuing a Master’s in Applied Information and Data Science at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. I'm also working at Mammut AG, conducting real-world data analysis and research into product quality and innovation.

🛠️ Jack of All Trades, Mastering My Niche

Before entering tech, I worked in a wide variety of roles—from teacher and translator to bike mechanic and construction worker. These experiences shaped how I approach challenges: creatively, practically, and with grit.

Here’s a glimpse of the journey that shaped me:

  • 📊 Master's thesis on climbing rope innovation and quality testing at Mammut AG
  • 🤖 Data Science Intern at ON AG — building ML tools to optimize customs processes
  • 🏃 Physical Education Teacher
  • 🌍 Exchange student in Australia, Switzerland and Slovenia
  • 🛠️ Software translator, kitchen assistant, bike mechanic
  • 💻 Open-source contributor and self-taught web developer

Each role gave me transferable skills—whether it's attention to detail, cross-cultural communication, or hands-on problem-solving—that I now channel into data science projects.

Today, I’m focused on becoming a well-rounded, technically strong, and insight-driven Data Scientist—bridging the gap between raw data and real-world impact.
