Course Description

Frameworks can help you get things done quickly by providing a model for development that yields special functionality. This course helps to acquaint you with Angular, the widely used JavaScript framework for building single-page web applications. Join instructor Maaike van Putten as she shows you how to build basic front-end applications using Angular, including how to display data from an API and post data with the use of forms. An ideal fit for new Angular developers who already know HTML and TypeScript, this course equips you with the skills you need to manage essential Angular components, services, models, modules, and routing.

This course is integrated with GitHub Codespaces, an instant cloud developer environment that offers all the functionality of your favorite IDE without the need for any local machine setup. Instructions

This repository has branches for each of the videos in the course. You can use the branch pop up menu in github to switch to a specific branch and take a look at the course at that stage, or you can add /tree/BRANCH_NAME to the URL to go to the branch you want to access.

Branches

The branches are structured to correspond to the videos in the course. The naming convention is CHAPTER#_MOVIE#. As an example, the branch named 02_03 corresponds to the second chapter and the third video in that chapter. Some branches will have a beginning and an end state. These are marked with the letters b for "beginning" and e for "end". The b branch contains the code as it is at the beginning of the movie. The e branch contains the code as it is at the end of the movie. The main branch holds the final state of the code when in the course.

When switching from one exercise files branch to the next after making changes to the files, you may get a message like this:

error: Your local changes to the following files would be overwritten by checkout:        [files]
Please commit your changes or stash them before you switch branches.
Aborting

To resolve this issue:

Add changes to git using this command: git add .
Commit changes using this command: git commit -m "some message"

Additional Information

This project was generated using Angular CLI version 19.1.4.

Development server

To start a local development server, run:

ng serve

Once the server is running, open your browser and navigate to http://localhost:4200/. The application will automatically reload whenever you modify any of the source files.

Code scaffolding

Angular CLI includes powerful code scaffolding tools. To generate a new component, run:

ng generate component component-name

For a complete list of available schematics (such as components, directives, or pipes), run:

ng generate --help

Building

To build the project run:

ng build

This will compile your project and store the build artifacts in the dist/ directory. By default, the production build optimizes your application for performance and speed.

Running unit tests

To execute unit tests with the Karma test runner, use the following command:

ng test

Running end-to-end tests

For end-to-end (e2e) testing, run:

ng e2e

Angular CLI does not come with an end-to-end testing framework by default. You can choose one that suits your needs.
