What do I do if I didn't confirm my account fast enough?

If you didn't/don't receive the confirmation email, ask the person who registered you to verify the email they used. If it's wrong, they will need to go into your account profile and correct it, after which you should try sending a new confirmation email to yourself.

Why can't I unregister a new member who was released?

They should be marked as released from their account page. If a truly bogus account was somehow created and needs to be deleted, create a bug report.
