Add support for structured output for AzureAIChatCompletionClient
Feature request from maintainer ekzhu: The
AzureAIChatCompletionClientdoes not support structured output (JSON schema-guided response format), whileOpenAIChatCompletionClientalready has this capability. The request is to add comparable structured output support to the Azure AI client.Filed by: ekzhu (maintainer)
The
AzureAIChatCompletionClientimplementation was missing theresponse_formathandling in itscreate()andcreate_stream()methods. The Azure AI Inference SDK supportsChatCompletionsResponseFormatparameters, but the AutoGen client wrapper did not translate Pydantic model schemas into the required Azure SDK format objects.File:
python/packages/autogen-ext/src/autogen_ext/models/azure/_azure_ai_client.pyresponse_formathandling in model creation callsLow - The change adds a new feature (structured output) in a backward-compatible manner. Existing plain-text and JSON-object mode outputs continue to work unchanged. Only users who explicitly pass a Pydantic model or JSON schema as
response_formatwill be affected by the new code path.
