Digital Library Services for Democracy
The OpenAustralia Foundation is an Australian charity that builds public digital infrastructure for democracy. Our vision is to transform democracy in Australia. Our mission is to give all Australians the tools they need to effect the change they want.
We're a strictly non-partisan organisation. We are not the government, nor are we affiliated with any political party.
We're powered by donations from people like you. Your donations keep Planning Alerts, Right to Know, They Vote for You, OpenAustralia.org.au and morph.io running.
| Service | What it does |
|---|---|
| Planning Alerts | Emails you about development applications near you (source) |
| Right to Know | Helps you make freedom of information requests to Australian governments, in public (source) |
| They Vote for You | Shows how your MPs and senators vote in the federal Parliament (source) |
| OpenAustralia.org.au | Makes it easy to read and search what's said in the federal Parliament (source) |
| morph.io | Lets developers write, run and schedule web scrapers (source) |
Our work stands on the shoulders of others. Right to Know runs on Alaveteli and OpenAustralia.org.au grew from TheyWorkForYou, both by mySociety in the UK.
The services above are open source. A community of people add to and help maintain and improve them in their own big and small ways.
You don't need to be a developer to help. People contribute code, council scrapers, research, documentation and bug reports. Pick a service above and find an open issue, or write a scraper on morph.io.
Our services exist because of the people who build and maintain them. Thanks goes to these wonderful people. If you contribute to any of our projects, you'll get to be here too.
OpenAustralia.org.au — assembled from a main repository and several submodules, so thanks go to contributors across all of them:
OpenAustralia Foundation acknowledges the traditional Owners of Country throughout the lands currently known as Australia and acknowledges their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to the people, the cultures and the Elders past and present.
