Now that the MSRV has been bumped, we no longer need rustversion.
Apparently on newer Rust versions this can be inferred automatically.
I guess rustfmt behaves differently when the Rust edition is set to 2024.

This PR increases the MSRV to 1.98 and then cleans up the code a bit to take advantage of the new MSRV.
