Conversation
Stop tracking unreleased SNAPSHOT versions from the main branch in ecosystem-registry/java/javaagent and remove existing snapshot directory and unreferenced README files. The java-instrumentation-watcher now tracks official releases only. Part of open-telemetry#1152. Signed-off-by: Surbhi Agarwal <SurbhiAgarwal1@users.noreply.github.com>

What changed
Removed SNAPSHOT tracking from the Java instrumentation watcher and cleaned up existing snapshot data:
update_snapshot()fromInstrumentationSyncand updatedsync()to only backfill missing README indexes and process new releases.main.pysync summary.ecosystem-registry/java/javaagent/v2.33.2-SNAPSHOT/and pruned the 21 unreferenced orphaned READMEs fromecosystem-registry/java/javaagent/library_readmes/.test_instrumentation_sync.pyand documentation injava-instrumentation-watcher/README.md.Why
Part of #1152.
As discussed in #1152, tracking unreleased SNAPSHOT versions from
mainin the registry adds no practical value since neitherexplorer-db-buildernorv1-registry-syncconsumes snapshot data (the user-facing explorer only displays official releases). Removing snapshot tracking eliminates nightly automated PR noise when there are no new releases upstream. Per discussion with @jaydeluca, we are removing snapshots one language per PR, starting with Java. How it was tested
pytest ecosystem-automation/java-instrumentation-watcher/(all 104 unit tests passed).ruff check ecosystem-automation/java-instrumentation-watcher(clean).ruff format --check ecosystem-automation/java-instrumentation-watcher(clean).prune_orphan_readmes()cleanly pruned only the 21 unreferenced READMEs associated with the snapshot. Is this a breaking change?
No. Downstream consumers (
explorer-db-builder, etc.) already filter out SNAPSHOT directories.Special notes for your reviewer
This is the first PR in the series addressing #1152 (Java). Once all languages have had snapshot tracking removed, the shared methods in
watcher-commonwill be cleaned up in a follow-up PR.Checklist
