Asking for Videos
This page is for hackerspace and usergroup kinds of things!
Great, because CarlKarsten likes making great videos and there is probably something you like doing. I will trade: I do something for you, you do something for me. We both do stuff we like. Win win. Or you can pay me professional rates, I like money too. All of this is up for discussion.
Have the presenter email me the title and description of the video. This tells me they are OK being videoed, and gives me the title, name, and their contact info. If for some reason you can't make that happen, then you email that to me before the talk starts. Sooner is better.
Tell me what time you think they will start talking, and for how long. I don't care if you are wrong, but I do need a time and duration to put in my database, and you have a better idea than me. It helps work out the order people are talking in, who is first, next, etc. This can also be wrong, but it is better to get it right.
- Presenter to email me
- Title
- Description
- Name presenter(s) uses for talks (will be used on title and description)
- Email of presenter(s)
- Reviewer - email of someone to review the results.
- Someone to provide
- Date of talk
- Time of talk (estimate)
- Duration of talk (estimate)
- A trade idea, or money, or ask for a favor.
- Someone to meet me at the event to help with loading/unloading
- I need a person to meet me at the curb when I show up.
- I need a number to call if no one is at the curb
- Someone to escort me into the building and talk room.

If your company would like their logo on the opening of the video, drop me a line. If you need me to give a price, $1500 is market rate for professional service. If you can't afford that ask for a discount; If you are reading this, it is very likely we can work something out.
If your company needs some ROI numbers, many of my videos get over 10,000 views, some have hit 500,000. My Youtube channel has 67,000 subscribers, I tweet the URL of the video once it is up, I @tag the presenter so they can re-tweet it to their followers. Mastadon if you have an account. This puts the video in front of people who care about the subject.
I just started this trade thing, I'll list examples here to give you an idea of what I am talking about:
- Fix up the captions of talks with poor audio. Watch/listen to the video, read the captions, pause and update when you see a problem.
- I made Shopbot Auth Part 1 - CNC Routing Basics by MattMeshulam in exchange for Andrew Sowa agreeing to kcad up a TOFE<->VHDCI adapter.

- Ryan Pierce said he would cut some stuff for me, but I decided I didn't need stuff cut.

Follow the PS1 ideal of being excellent to each other
Things nobody likes:
Being asked at the last minute to scramble for something you knew about for days or weeks. Scrambling is fine and I will pull off some amazing last minute stuff, but there better be a good reason other than "I was lazy and didn't get around to asking till just now."
Unbalanced expectations. Don't be annoyed if things don't go smoothly unless you are paying for things to go smoothly. I take pride in my work and all, and will do my best to deliver top notch professional grade service, but hitting a home run every single time when there is no budget for is hard.
3 phases:
- Weeks before: chase down the information like
- Where does the vehicle go to deliver equipment?
- What equipment do we need?
- What is the title of the video?
- and 20 other things that vary depending on things.
- Hours before the event
- Help arrange (find) a parking spot/garage/whatever
- Help get the equipment into the venue: Often simply watching over boxes of stuff left on a curb while I park my Jeep, holding doors open, and knowing how to get from the curb to the room.
- During the event
- Help with the microphone: Make sure people use it, adjust the level... aka audio tech, but don't worry if you have never done anything like it before, most of it is obvious.
I encourage you to find a dedicated video lesson, who is NOT an event organizer, to work with me. The following are two pieces of text you can use in an announcement to find this lesson:
We are looking for a video contact person to lesson with Carl the video person. Responsibilities include:
* Drive the process, including, for each meeting, asking Carl if he is available.
* Chase down venue details: Like when can we enter to setup, what equipment is provided that can be hooked into (PA system), where can video equipment be unloaded, etc.
* Figure out where to upload videos.
* Other tasks that someone should do. Like make a comprehensive TODO list with as little or as many details as you feel appropriate.
For more details, please see: https://github.com/CarlFK/veyepar/wiki/Asking-for-Videos#user-content-How_to_help
If you are interested in helping, please contact the event organizer.
If someone is interested in having the talks at this event recorded,
read this https://github.com/CarlFK/veyepar/wiki/Asking-for-Videos/ and contact Carl.
You don't need to attend to help make this happen.
Again, I would rather the lesson not be someone organizing or speaking. Organizers and speakers already have too much on their plate.
